We asked: Quote yourself, Anna! Of all the lines you've written for Bright Young Things and your bestselling Luxe series, what's your favorite quote from each. Anna answered . . .

From Bright Young Things, p. 24

If Cordelia could have foreseen everything that was to happen in the next couple of weeks, how sleepless and manic and full they would be, she might have tried to get some rest, too. But her eyes were wild, and there was so much electricity in every corner of her head and heart—she was too alive with awake dreams to try to have any of the other variety. She wanted to see the sun coming up in another state, and everything else the world had been holding just out of her reach.

From The Luxe, p. 118

Diana returned her eyes to Henry Schoonmaker, very real before her, and felt a lovely kind of pain shoot through her chest. There were so many things he knew that she didn't. She could tell by the way he stood that he was older than she was and that he had done things she could never do. She wanted to take him upstairs and lock the door and make him tell her everything.

We asked: Describe the feeling you get when you've written a line that puts a smile on your face. Anna answered . . .

My impulse to write, at bottom, is a desire for sanity, to find order and clarity in the mess of the mind. So when I write a sentence that really nails it, that really sings, that's the feeling of everything being right in the world, everything fine and clear.

We asked: Who's your favorite Bright Young Things character and why? Anna answered . . .

Definitely Astrid. She's no angel, and she is often wrong-headed, but she lives her life joyfully and without apology, and because of that her chapters are always breezy and easy to write. She's just someone I really like to be with.

We asked: Who's your favorite Luxe character and why? Anna answered . . .

Oh, I love and miss them all! But probably Lina, despite the fact—or maybe sort of because—she's not a reader favorite. I feel protective of her, I guess. And I also admire how determined she is to make her life as beautiful as the one lived by the rich girls she works for.
